November 03, 2014
Mike Jones’ 1950 MG TD, restored to concours condition by K&T Vintage Sports Cars, was featured in The [Allentown] Morning Call’s “Classic Rides” column in its weekly “Cars” section.
Owner: Michael Jones
Engine size/horsepower: 1250 cc / 54 hp
Paint: MG Red, Biscuit interior
Upgrades/modifications: Complete frame-off restoration to factory specifications during an 18-month period in 2007 and 2008.
Future plans: Continued competition in Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) and Concours d’Elegance events.
Why this vehicle is special: The TD, my first car, was just a sporty second-hand car in 1961 when I bought it off a used car lot in Allentown with $400 earned from my paper route. I used it throughout the remainder of high school and college and during my first job. After I got married, we used the car for sprints, road rallies, gymkhanas, club events, vacations and all around general transportation. The TD kept on running well, but by 2007, it was showing its 46 years of road wear. The car went to K&T Vintage Sports Cars in Allentown for a total restoration. Wherever possible, the original parts were rebuilt and reused. A lot of attention was spent getting the details just right, complete with a period-correct battery and a white felt liner in the tool box. Since restoration, the car has received AACA’s Senior National First Prize and many Concours d’Elegance awards.
